Futuristic Ferris Wheel Becoming A Reality In China

There are well over 1,000 ferris wheels in the world, but not any that are like this one. Locals and visitors to Weifang City can enjoy a new, amazing view thanks to this new futuristic ferris wheel. This spoke-less attraction offers amazing views of the Bailang River and even North Korea on a clear day. The Bailang River Bridge Ferris Wheel will prove to be one of China's most popular attractions.

The Construction

This ferris wheel has actually been built onto the Bailang River Bridge. There are carts that can carry up to 10 passengers each. The ferris wheel is 475 feet tall. To put it in perspective, it's over 32 feet taller than the London Eye. The construction of it is interesting as it doesn't have spokes, which makes it the first spokeless ferris wheel in the world. It is made up of around 4,600 tons of steel and the beams crisscross, which allows the Ferris wheel to be held together. Because of the architecture, it's been referred to as a dragon's spine.

Futuristic Features

Each carriage will have a television that will most likely show the real time location of the carriage. The designers have yet to disclose exactly what passengers will see. The ferris wheel will also have WiFi so you can stay connected to the internet, even when the carriage is high up in the air. Riders might find this very valuable to have as it takes 28 minutes exactly to complete one rotation. So after taking some videos or selfies, you can actually post them online before you even make it back down to the bottom.

Weifang City

This ferris wheel is a welcome addition to this city. Weifang features many different attractions including Mount Yi National Forest Park, Fangong Pavilion and Shihu Garden. There are also numerous fossil sites here where dinosaur fossils have been found. There are over 9 million people that call Weifang home. So if you do visit this area, it will be busy. If you visit the ferris wheel or any of the more popular sites, expect a wait. Nevertheless, this shouldn't deter you as the area has a lot to offer visitors, especially with it's rich history and unique culture. Ticket prices for the Bailang River Bridge Ferris Wheel have not been released yet. It is scheduled to open to the public later this year.
