Exotic China, Tibet Plus Pandas Day 1 - Day 1 - Welcome to Beijing
On arrival at the airport and clearance through immigration and customs formalities, you’ll be warmly greeted and escorted to the luxurious Fairmont Beijing Hotel in the heart of the city.

Day 2 - Day 2 - Beijing’s Imperial Highlights
Your day begins as it does for millions of people across China: With an invigorating Tai Chi session. On the splendid grounds of the Temple of Heaven #WHS#, an experienced English-speaking Tai Chi Master will conduct a private class for our guests. Then join your engaging guide for a tour of this UNESCO World Heritage Site; it’s a resplendent example of Ming Dynasty design and engineering and offers fascinating insight into ancient Chinese beliefs in numerology and cosmology.

After lunch, you’ll continue your sightseeing in the center of the capital. Stand in Tiananmen Square and admire the architectural landmarks that surround one of the world’s largest and grandest public plazas. Then follow in the footsteps of Ming Dynasty emperors as you tour the Forbidden City #WHS#, a vast complex of places, courtyards and pavilions.  This evening, you’ll sit down to a traditional Peking Duck Banquet.  Meals B+L+D

Day 3 - Day 3 - Another Brick in the Wall
This morning, you’ll journey into the rugged mountains north of the capital to a remote section of the Great Wall #WHS#. With far fewer visitors and sections still undergoing restoration, you’ll enjoy an authentic Great Wall experience afforded to few other travelers. The adventure begins as you join a team of conservationists to assist in their efforts. Using bricks made from the same materials used centuries ago and with guidance from the staff, you’ll hand-lay a few bricks before stepping back to appreciate the work you’ve done; it promises a sense of accomplishment that you will long remember. Then moving on to sections already-restored, you’ll ascend to the top of the Great Wall for a guided tour, learning more about the history of this ancient defensive structure and taking in the sweeping views of the surrounding hills and mountains.

After lunch, you’ll tour the resplendent Summer Palace #WHS#, erstwhile retreat of China’s emperors. Set on wooded hills surrounding a tranquil lake, this ensemble of pavilions, palaces and gardens offers a glimpse into Imperial life long ago. After sightseeing, we’ll take you back to the hotel where your evening is free to dine and relax as you wish.  Meals B+L

Day 6 - Day 6 - The Potala Palace
Today’s full day tour begins with the magnificent Potala Palace #WHS#, described by British-born essayist Pico Iyer in this way: “The very center of Tibet is Lhasa and the very center of Lhasa, for more than three centuries, has been the Potala Palace. An unfathomable building erected on a rock face 13 stories high, it has golden turrets on the roof that can be seen 12 miles away, and it stretches for more than 1,000 feet along a ridge against the snowcaps. The Potala looks and feels like no other building on the planet”.

Next you’ll visit Jokhang Monastery. Originally founded in the 7th century, this 4-story timber structure topped with gold remains an important pilgrimage site for Tibetan Buddhists. Nearby, you’ll have a chance to explore Barkhor Street where you’ll see traditional homes and colorful prayer flags fluttering in the breeze as you join residents and visitors browsing through the many shops and market stalls.  Meals B+L
